Alice in Chains Detail ‘Rainier Fog’ Inspired Film Project

As originally published by Sarah Murphy on Exclaim!

Alice in Chains released Rainier Fog earlier this year, and now the long-running alt-rock outfit has revealed plans for a companion film.

Titled Black Antenna, the movie was produced and directed by Adam Mason. It’s a sci-fi film that was inspired by the ten songs on the record, and will be released episodically over ten instalments beginning next year. Each clip is set to a different song from the album.

“We’ve always toyed with the idea of creating videos for every song on one of our albums,” drummer Sean Kinney said in a statement. “Not only did we do that for Rainier Fog, it got totally out of hand and we made a whole goddamn movie. Everything that will be seen in the videos will be footage from Black Antenna to preface the complete film’s release.”

Check out a preview for Black Antenna below.

Rainier Fog was released in August and marked the band’s first studio album in five years. It has since been nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Rock Album category.

Tommy Chong Criticizes Canadian Government’s Monopoly on Legal Weed

As originally published by Sarah Murphy on Exclaim!

Canadian-born comedian and weed enthusiast Tommy Chong has spoken out against the government’s hold on legal weed.

While in Toronto to film the Air Farce New Year’s Eve special for CBC, Chong spoke to the Canadian Press about Canada’s recent decision to legalize weed. And although he is all for the legalization of recreational cannabis, he disagrees with how the government has handled it.

“I love that it’s Canada that was first (to do it before the U.S.),” he said. “See, God has a sense of humour: he gave us Trump and he legalized weed at the same time.”

Nevertheless, he said government-owned and sold pot isn’t the way to go.

“But that’s the Canadian way,” he said. “Like when they legalized alcohol, the government took control of the monopoly and you could only buy booze from the government, and the government is trying to do the same thing with pot.”

“They want to make it so that they’re the only supplier and it’s not going to work that way,” Chong continued. “So what Canada has done now, legally, they’ve kept the underground market alive and vibrant, because people still go to their dealer to get the best weed and the quickest weed.”

He also lamented the fact that he’s still unable to operate or advertise his own cannabis company in Canada, but said that he’ll be expanding to Germany, Ecuador and Brazil soon. In fact, he thinks he’ll bring about world peace with his business because global powers will “be too stoned to fight, basically.”

As for any upcoming instalments of the Cheech & Chong film franchise in the era of legal weed, 80-year-old Chong said he doesn’t have the energy for it. There is, however, a documentary about the pair in the works.

Dave Grohl Is Apparently Making a Film About His Life

As originally published by Brock Thiessen on Exclaim!

While Dave Grohl is no stranger to the world of film, the Foo Fighters/Nirvana hero is apparently about to make a big jump with his next cinematic project. According to his mother, Grohl is making a movie about his own life.

Grohl’s mom, Virginia Hanlon Grohl, actually made the reveal about the upcoming documentary to the Sydney Morning Herald earlier this fall, but according to some new social media posts, the project seems to be well underway and now shooting.

This week, Grohl suddenly popped up at his old school Annandale High School in Virginia. According to a post from school principal Tim Thomas, the rock hero came fully equipped with a film crew.

Went outside to investigate a film crew on campus only to discover that it was Dave Grohl from @foofighters who went to AHS and whose mother was an English teacher at AHS. What a treat! Go Atoms!! pic.twitter.com/bPq5WQcFeF

So far, though, the details of the upcoming film are extremely vague. As Loudwire reports, Virginia Hanlon Grohl told the Sydney Morning Herald that documentary may involve his siblings and would focus on his career “from Scream to Nirvana to Foo Fighters.”

“We are doing that,” she said. “Coming soon.”

At this point, it’s very much a “stay tuned” sort of situation, so we will have to do just that.

In other Grohl news, he recently made headlines for allegedly blocking the release of the new Sunny Day Real Estate album, with that dispute getting more than a little ugly online.

N0V3L – “To Whom It May Concern” & “Natural”

N0V3L - Novel EPN0V3L are a DIY collective based out of a house in Vancouver, who also happen to be a band playing post-punk in the Gang Of Four tradition. Today they’re announcing their debut EP — though at eight whole songs, it continues my confusion about what constitutes an album vs. an EP these days. More »

The 20 Best Music Videos Of 2018
